Bugs by type › Beetles
Beetles Beetles are the biggest group of animals on Earth: about one in every four known kinds of animal is a beetle. What they share is a pair of hard wing cases that cover the flying wings like a lid.
How to tell
What makes a beetle
01 Wing cases The front wings are hard shields, meeting in a line down the middle of the back.
02 Jaws Beetles bite and chew. None of them has a sucking tube.
03 Grubs The young are grubs that look nothing like the adult, and change inside a pupa.
