Six things about the badger
HomeA sett
Badgers live in a network of tunnels and chambers called a sett. Some setts have been used for hundreds of years.
FoodWorm lovers
Earthworms are a badger's favourite food. One badger can eat several hundred in a single night.
FamilyA clan
Badgers live in family groups, often called clans, that share the same sett.
BeddingFresh bedding
They drag dry grass and leaves down into the sett for bedding, and carry the old bedding out again to air it.
ClawsBuilt for digging
Short, powerful legs and long front claws make badgers some of the best diggers in Britain.
LawProtected
Badgers and their setts are protected by law.

Out and aboutHow to spot one
Look for a well-worn path under a fence, wiry hair caught on wire, and a large hole with a heap of earth and old bedding. Watch from downwind at dusk.
Lend a handHow to help
Keep well back from setts, keep dogs on leads near them, and report any blocked or damaged sett to the local badger group.
